Abstract

EFFECTIVENESS OF VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL (Study on the Impact of Principal Leadership, School Climate, Community Participation, Teachers Teaching Performance on the Effectiveness of Vocational High School in West Java)

The problem examined in this research is about the effectiveness of vocational high school. The main focus is on the factors influencing the effectiveness of school, including the principal leadership, school climate, community participation, and the teachers teaching performance. Based on the background, the problem statement in this research is whether the relational structure among variables that affect directly or indirectly on the effectiveness of the Vocational High School in West Java, which consists of Principal leadership, school climate, community participation, and teachers teaching performance are supported by empirical facts.
The method of this research is Explanatory Survey Method. Data are collected using the 5-scale questionnaire of Multiple Rating List Scale. The research sample is 210 of Vocational High School, drawn proportionally from 422 Vocational High School in West Java. Structure Equation Models are utilized to analyze the data.
In general, the results of this research show that the relational structure among variables that affect the effectiveness of vocational high school in West Java are supported by empirical fact. It means that based on the all paths of exogenous variables that consist of principal leadership, school climate, community participation, and the teachers teaching performance on the effectiveness of Vocational High School, as an endogenous variable is significant. Specifically, the result of this research shows that: (1) the principal leadership of Vocational High School in West Java province is in the high category, as well as climate of Vocational High School in West Java at the high category. While variable community participation in middle category. Variable teachers teaching performance of Vocational High School in West Java at the high category. (2) Principals leadership has a significant impact on the school climate. (3) Principal Leadership has a significant impact on Community Participation. (3) School Climate directly had the most dominant influence on teachers teaching performance, followed by community participation and principals leadership. (4) Principals leadership, School Climate, Community Participation, Teachers Teaching Performance significantly impact on the effectiveness of the School.
Based on the results, the school should be encourage and enhance community participation by identifying the needs of the community towards the school and identify what can be done by the schools to meet these needs, giving rise to the satisfaction of the community, with the creation of such satisfaction, the school can meet the need for community participation in the school. In addition, school partnerships with business and industry institutions can be improved through optimization of the role of the school committee, the juridical basis of formal clear and unequivocal organize school partnerships with business and industry institutions, and is based on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the school and the business and industry institutions in established partnerships.
