Examining student teachers’ perception and experience towards professional practice through supervision by supervisors

Professional practice is to test some of the main activities of teaching skills in the classroom and in providing professional teachers in any country. This study examined the perceptions and experiences of student teachers towards the lecturer and school teacher as supervisor during professional practice. The data collected in this study is 34 final year students majoring in special education: 12 were males and 22 females and the instrument used was a questionnaire. The findings showed that student teachers have a positive perception of professional practice by the supervisor. Accordingly, student teachers recognize the concept of professional practice is very important for the improvement of teaching skills. It was therefore concluded that, there is a need for strengthening the teaching practice supervision exercise and specifically the collaboration between institution teaching practice supervisor and the school teacher as a host institutions should be improved so as to minimize the challenges emanating from miscommunication during the teaching practice exercise.
